Surface treatments: water reuse in metal finishing operation process.

The customer
A 40 years’s experienced company of the surface treatments sector based in the US, recently acquired by a Japanese Group with numerous facilities and with 40 various state-of-the-art coating line technologies. The company counts among its customers many of the major players of the automotive, truck, green energy and off shore companies.

Goals
The Client aims at finding a solution to reduce the amount of wastewater to dispose of and to potentially reuse the recovered water in their operation process or to discharge the treated water to local POTW (Publicly Operated Treatment Works).

The solution provided

The EVALED solution we recommended to achieve these important goals is a vacuum evaporator type EVALED PC R 1 made in AISI 316 steel, having a distillate production capacity of 1 m3/day and a footprint of 3.2 m2.

PC R is the series of heat pump evaporator with an internal scraping system that continuously stir the concentrate. The series is designed to treat wastewater containing a high concentration of dissolved solids and can manage a high level of fouling and scaling phenomena typical of viscous liquids or due to sediments presence.

The results:

  • Concentration factor: ~5 times
  • Wastewater disposal volume and cost reduction
  • Water recovery for manufacturing purposes:  ~80%
  • Return of the investment: <1 year
